Most gardens have at least one apple tree. No wonder apples are among the most popular fruit in Germany. Annoying only when the apple tree throws only small and not particularly tasting fruits.

Planting a new apple tree is an option, but it takes patience until the first harvest. But if you don't want to wait that long for your sweet, crunchy apples from your own garden, you can also refine your apple tree with other apple varieties. If you do the right thing, you will soon have other apples in the garden that you can then enjoy.

There are several ways of finishing - the okulation and the copulation. The simplest method is the copulation and you can find the exact instructions here.

Grafting apple trees using the copulation method

➤ What you need for it

  • a noble twigs
  • a base on which the shoot is placed
  • Kopulationsmesser

Make sure that the apple tree is only refined if the shoots are of the same type of plant. For example, an apple tree would not grow on a plum tree.

The noble rice, i.e. the variety that you want to multiply, should have a branch with a length of at least ten centimeters and be as thick as a pencil. There should also be about four buds on it.

" Attention: Only annual shoots are used.

The base should be at least as thick and be provided with two buds.

➤ The right time

The best time to cut the fine rice is during the winter months - in the months of December and January. You can also carry out the finishing immediately afterwards. You can also wait until spring (March to April). Until then, the noble twigs should be stored cool and absolutely frost-free.

" Tip: The branch stays fresh for a long time in damp sand.

❒ Step 1: cut underlay
Here we go. To make a clean cut, you need a sharp knife. The best thing here is a special copying knife (cheap here at Amazon). This allows the cut to be made properly without damaging the branch.

Make an oblique cut on the base with the knife. This can be up to six centimeters long.

❒ Step 2: Cut fine brushwood as a counter tongue
Now take the noble twigs in hand and do exactly the same. Cut a counter tongue to match the base so that both branches fit directly together.

❒ Step 3: fix the cut
Then put both parts on top of each other and fix the connection with bast. Finally, coat this area and the tip of the fine brushwood with tree wax.

" Attention!!! The interfaces must not be touched with the fingers.

If the branch shoots out in the spring, the grafting was successful.
