Shards bring luck! So why not use glass splinters as a garden decoration ?! You can find ideas and instructions for deploying the splinters here.Splinters of glass are a beautiful garden decoration
Colorful pieces of glass have always had a great attraction for us humans, as they often look like small gemstones. And especially when the sun is reflected in them, their individual radiance is particularly well expressed. Which is why recently especially sturdy glass fragments made for outdoors are among the absolute decoration favorites for gardens.
The combination of light and glass makes the splinters shine effectively even in the dark. However, you should not confuse glass fragments with the smooth-surface glass pebbles offered in smaller quantities, which are mostly only suitable for small decorative purposes and only to a limited extent for outdoor use. We are talking here of rubble or granulate that is fine and fits in any garden.
In the text below, we will explain a few ideas on how you can use the glass splinters in the garden and how to use them correctly.
Design ideas for the garden
➤ Idea No. 1 - Embellish beds and tubs:
Glass splinters are now available in a wide variety of sizes and almost all colors. Small splinters (grain size between 5 and 40 millimeters) are particularly suitable for decorating beds and tubs, whereby a requirement of around 40 to 50 kilograms of splinters is calculated per square meter (depending on the dumping height and full-surface installation).
➤ Idea No. 2 - Embellish the swimming pond, garden pool and terrace:
Splinters of glass can also be used optimally around swimming ponds, garden pools and as a terrace boundary. An idea that will amaze visitors!
➤ Idea No. 3 - create samples or pictures:
Companies even have the option of displaying their own company logo with glass splinters in the outdoor area. You can also create colorful motifs and therefore true works of art in your garden with the diverse colors.
Spreading broken glass in the garden - small instructions
➤ Step 1 - buy glass fragments:
First of all, of course, it's about buying the right pieces of glass. It is imperative that you always clarify whether they are suitable for outdoor use, withstand frost temperatures and are accessible. Furthermore, it should be tumbled glass fragments, the sharp edges of which have already broken off.
As far as the colors are concerned, you will find glass fragments in green, blue and brown. This is because they are a recycling product from the bottle industry. This also explains why red, yellow, violet, etc. glass fragments are often more expensive.
➤ Step 2 - lay the garden fleece:
If you want to beautify your garden with broken glass, this requires a little preliminary work. Before spreading the glass splinters, you should apply a plastic garden fleece on the levelest possible pouring surface so that weeds cannot later grow between the glass splinters. You must then of course cut out the garden fleece in the area of individual, already existing plants, for which a so-called cross-cut is always recommended - carefully lift the fleece over the plants and then put it back on as densely as possible.
If, however, you create the flower bed fresh, you should first spread out the fleece completely, then make a cross cut at the intended planting site and then insert the plant.
If you lay several nonwoven webs, you must make sure that the individual webs overlap generously at the interfaces.
➤ Step 3 - Spread the bulk material evenly:
As soon as you have laid out the garden fleece around the plants, you can fill the surface with glass splinters. You should distribute these as large as possible right from the start and not tip them over one spot.
You can then carefully spread the glass splinters with a plastic rake to create a flat surface.
Caring for broken glass properly
You can clean high-quality, usually weatherproof glass splinters from time to time with a water hose. You do not have to do this often, however, as it is rare to find algae on the individual chunks. The reason for this is the non-porous surface of the glass. However, you should collect debris and autumn leaves that collect on the bed. As a rule, this effective looking garden decoration does not need more care.
