The disadvantage of the green floating plant is that it proliferates disproportionately quickly and makes a garden pond visually almost unsightly. At the same time, sunlight is difficult to get through the water surface, which makes it difficult, for example, to fish in the garden pond. To avoid this, we would like to give you a few tips on how you should take care of your duckweed.

After the duckweed in the garden pond is extremely useful and serves as food for many animals, it should still be given some care. Of course, this includes first and foremost the containment so that the garden pond does not become muddy. Which in turn can ultimately harm the duckweed itself.

Tip 1:
The problem can be contained if all plants in the garden pond are no longer fertilized. Thereupon the violent growth of duckweed - also called duckweed - decreases immensely.

Tip 2:
Or fish that eat duckweed are used in a garden pond, e.g. Carp species. If these fish are not additionally supplied with fish food, which is also described as fertilizer for duckweed, they attack the plant population significantly and reduce it naturally.

Tip 3:
On top of that duckweed love the calm water. A lot of movement in the water inhibits their growth, which is why a pretty fountain in the garden pond is recommended.

Tip 4:
Most types of duckweed can be regularly fished from the pond surface with a net. Which ensures easy damming of duckweed at all times.

Tip 5:
In winter, this plant retreats to the frost-free water bed and hibernates there independently. Why at this point the garden pond may no longer be cleaned by human hands. So for the last time in autumn, but preferably only in spring when the duckweed is floating on the surface again.
